She Eased a Loneliness in My Heart – Emiline and Shellie

Emiline and Shellie

The day my husband was deployed is 2001 was a sad one.  We had been married for 11 years and had never been apart for any great length of time. I went to work with a heavy heart and tried to go about my day as usual.

In the afternoon a gentleman walked in with a small puppy.  He said he was driving by and saw it outside our business. I took one look at this little baby with the big eyes and she at me. It was love at first sight.  She spent the rest of the workday with me, occasionally being passed to someone else’s arms where she would cry and want to come back to mine.
I named her Emiline. She is a chiweenie, black and tan.  She only weighed 4 pounds on that first day.  I took her to work with me every day, and at night we’d come home and cuddle on the sofa then I’d let her sleep in bed with me.  She was always eager to give kisses,  and listen to my tales of her wonderful Daddy whom she would meet one day.
She eased a loneliness in my heart and made it easier to face each day with my husband off at war.
When I worried or cried she was always there to comfort me.
Nine years and 8 pounds later I still have my little baby. She finally met her Daddy and gave her unconditional love to him too.
As we were never blessed with any human children, we feel as if God sent her to us for we needed her as much as she needed us.
