He Makes My Life Complete – Naomi and Jack

Naomi and Jack

My husband wanted a puppy. Like a little boy he begged and begged, and promised to clean up after him, and walk him, and I finally relented.

Don’t get me wrong – I love dogs, I just wasn’t sure our small apartment could handle one. I told Brian I wanted a border collie, but he was set on a blue heeler.
I started searching online, and what did I find? A little puppy, the last of his litter, the runt – a Blue Heeler and Border Collie combine. It was meant to be. The seller had posted no pictures, but the breed alone was enough to make me dial the number.
We live in Vancouver, and this little feller was in Quesnel, over 600 miles away. There was no way we could drive there in our beat up car, but his breeder offered to put him on a plane. It seemed like quite an adventure for such a little guy, but we agreed – he was sent in his crate for a 2 hour plane ride from Quesnel.
We got to the airport and found him huddled at the back of his crate, we could barely make out his colouring.  We had had no idea what he would look like, but when we finally stole a look at his face, we were not disappointed – this was the most handsome puppy we had ever seen, with incredible markings and an adorable face. We got him into the car, and slowly coaxed him out of hiding. It took him  a few minutes, but soon he was crawling all over us, licking our faces and proclaiming his undying loyalty to us.  We were sold– we named him Jack, and while he caused some mischief like all puppies do, he has grown into the most amazing, loving, loyal dog I’ve ever know.
To be greeted at the door with such enthusiasm each time I come home, and to have my toes warmed at night as he sleeps at the foot of my bed brings such satisfaction. He seems to naturally know when a dangerous situation is looming, and can tell when a friend is stopping by. His friendly and outgoing personality, yet calm and trusting demeanour make him the most lovely house pet I could ask for. And when he turns those big, brown eyes my way, I can’t believe I even considered not getting a puppy.
He makes my life complete.
