I don’t know about you but sometimes I get so wrapped up in my life that I forget to play with my dog. I am not talking about playing with balls, tug a war or even going for a walk.
I am talking really playing together, laughing and being silly.
It does not have to be long, but this is a great way to connect and spend quality time together.
Not all dogs play the same way and enjoy the same kind of interaction.
I have three dogs in my household and even though they are big dogs they all play differently.
Timba, loves to play tag. This is the only time when for short moment I chase her and she loves it. She loves running around really fast, being chased and trying to pass me without being tagged … she wins pretty much every time and walk away with a huge grin on her face.
Tara is a soccer girl and likes to fake and pass. She sometimes likes to stalk me, hide and jump up in front off me. She loves playing hide and seek around a park car …. or the couch in the living room.
Bear is a quiet and very reserve girl and for the longest time I did not know what get her excited. Until one day she rolled a ball at my feet and I kicked it back to her and we went back and forward for a little while until she walked away with the ball.
Playing with your dog keep him enthusiast and in a positive /healthy mind frame. Do not just interact with your dog for training and teaching him what you want – Play- Play before or after training sessions or just because for no reasons at all.

Gabe (my 11-year-old Miniature Poodle) loves it when I chase him but I don’t do it often as I’m not as fit as I used to be. He also loves it when I’m sitting on the ground and pretend to push him away by pushing on his chest. He loves that and comes rushing at me play-growling and pretending to bite my arm. Actually, I think I taught him how to play-growl while playing this game with him as a puppy! He also loves to play jokes on me. He pretends to be playing with something he shouldn’t have and then, when I go and look, saying,”Gabriel, are you playing with someone else’s toy?” I see that he has his ball hidden behind the forbidden object. He’ll grab the ball and pounce/jump away (think of a lamb cavorting) smiling a big Poodle-y smile. He makes me laugh every single day…
