The Winners for the April Dog Photo Contest

Congratulation to our winners – Jim, Bennie Joe and Mavis Marie

I love You Bub

The boy’s name (Wire Hair Terrier – largest dog) is named Bennie Joe.  Bennie was a rescue dog we found on the Internet.  My father had recently passed away and his name was Bennie Joe.   When we’ve seen this dog on the Internet and his name was Bennie Joe, we knew we had to help this dog …

We traveled from Indiana to Iowa to get him.  He came to us extremely timid, shy, and afraid of his surroundings.  Bennie had been used only as a mating dog and never left his cage.  Grass to him was like candy to a child in a candy store..   He loves the freedom of running the yard.  It took Bennie approx 6 months before he would begin to bond with me.  We already had another Wire Hair Terrier named Norma Jean.  They both get along fine, but not like he with Mavis.

The smaller dog in the picture (Jack Russell Terrier – has her arm around Bennie Joe)  Her name is Mavis Marie.  Of course we were not looking for a 3rd dog when Mavis came to us.  Mavis had a little sister and to keep them both from going to the dog pound we decided to take them and find good homes for them.  They both were puppies covered with fleas and starved for attention.  Well we found a home for Mavis’s sister.  But when it came time to find a home for Mavis…  She stole all our hearts including Bennie Joe.  She and Bennie are inseparable.  They run and play extremely hard every day.  Bennie tackles her as if they were playing football, but never hard enough to hurt her.

In the winning picture (first picture on the top) Bennie and Mavis are actually looking at the pond behind our house when I snapped the picture of them.  We have fenced in yard and a pond behind.
